Antibiotic pills, prescribed by our office, are given before the procedure, and the risk of infection is low.
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in our office. The discomfort is usually no more than for the vasectomy itself, though some patients may experience some back fatigue after lying supine for hours.
Each vas is repaired in turn through a single midline scrotal incision about half an inch in length. With the help of magnification using a surgical microscope, 10–20 sutures are used on each side in a three layer fashion. The operation takes two to three hours.
To allow for drainage and minimize the risk of swelling, a small drain is left around the vas overnight and is usually removed when the patient returns to our office the next day.
Dear Patients,
Due to the Canada Post strike, you will not be able to mail your post-vasectomy test until the situation is resolved. That being said, Dynacare, the lab that processes these semen analyses, has offered their assistance to address the issue.
You can drop off your sample in the envelope—just as you would if mailing it—at any of their locations with the label Attention: Problem Solvers. Dynacare has multiple locations in Ontario and Quebec. You can find their locations on their website: https://www.dynacare.ca/find-a-location.aspx.
Your sample will then be sent to the main lab for analysis.
Thank you for your understanding.
